Spread cost on FxPro

FxPro's typical spread on USD/ZAR is ~3 pips. At 1 standard lot, that's R30 cost to enter and exit — your position needs to move at least 3 pips in your favour just to break even. Use the pip value above to see the exact rand cost at your lot size.

On ZAR pairs, spread cost is priced directly in rand — no hidden FX conversion in the calculation.

How to use this calculator

01

Select your instrument

Choose from forex pairs (including all ZAR crosses), metals (XAU/USD gold, XAG/USD silver), indices (NAS100, US30) or crypto (BTC/USD). The calculator automatically applies the correct pip size and contract specification for each instrument class.
02

Enter lot size and optional N pips

Type your lot size. For stop-loss or take-profit sizing, enter the number of pips in the 'Number of Pips' field — the calculator instantly shows the total value in rand.
03

See all three lot sizes at once

The breakdown panel shows pip value for 0.01, 0.10 and 1.00 lots simultaneously — no need to recalculate for different position sizes.
04

Check the formula

Every result shows the exchange rate used and the calculation formula — useful for verifying against your broker's platform or for position sizing spreadsheets.

Frequently asked questions

What is a pip?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price move in a currency pair — the 4th decimal place for most pairs (0.0001), the 2nd decimal for JPY pairs (0.01). A move from USD/ZAR 18.7500 to 18.7600 is 100 pips.

What is the pip value for USD/ZAR on a ZAR account?

Exactly R10.00 per standard lot — fixed, regardless of the current rate. This is because ZAR is the quote currency. 0.10 lot = R1.00/pip, 0.01 lot = R0.10/pip. No conversion needed.

What is a pip for gold (XAU/USD)?

For gold, 1 pip = $0.01 (one cent). Gold is quoted to 2 decimal places (e.g., 2350.15). With a contract size of 100 troy ounces per standard lot, the pip value is exactly $1.00 per standard lot — fixed, regardless of the gold price. At USD/ZAR 18.00, that is R18.00 per pip per standard lot.

How does the NAS100 pip calculator work?

NAS100 moves in index points, not forex pips. The point value shown is indicative based on standard CFD contract conventions (~$1.00 per point per standard lot). Always verify with FxPro in MT4/MT5: right-click the symbol → Specification. At USD/ZAR 18.00, 1 point ≈ R18.00 per standard lot.

Why use the 'Number of Pips' field?

Enter your stop-loss distance (e.g. 40 pips) to instantly see the total rand value at risk for that trade. R50,000 account, 1% risk = R500. With a 40-pip stop on USD/ZAR and 1.25 standard lots, R500 ÷ (40 × R1.00/mini-lot) = 1.25 lots. No manual multiplication needed.

Can I use my broker's actual rate instead of ECB?

Yes. Click '⚙ Use custom rate' to enter your broker's current USD/ZAR rate. The calculator recalculates from that rate instead of ECB. ECB rates are accurate for position sizing, but your live broker rate may differ by a few pips.

Why does EUR/USD pip value in ZAR change daily?

EUR/USD pip value in USD is fixed ($10/lot), but converting to ZAR requires multiplying by the current USD/ZAR rate. At USD/ZAR 16.00, 1 pip = R160/lot. At 18.00, it's R180/lot. The ZAR pip value for all USD-quote pairs changes with USD/ZAR movement.

Are these pip values live?

Forex pip values use ECB reference rates (Frankfurter API) updated each business day. Live BTC/ETH prices come from CoinGecko (free, real-time). Gold and silver use fixed contract specifications combined with live USD/ZAR. Index values are indicative.
